West Union is home to North Fayette Community Schools. The North Fayette District is a proud part of Fayette County covering 190 square miles. The district includes the communities of Fayette, Hawkeye, Eldorado, Alpha, and West Union. Elementary Centers are located in Fayette, Hawkeye, and West Union with a Middle School and High School in West Union.

An important part of community life in the area, North Fayette Community School District provides academic, athletic, and cultural activities for all residents. District patrons and local businesses fully support the district's endeavors to provide the best education for all students.

A new Performing Arts Center opened on the 60-acre high school campus in 2007 offering state-of-the art facilities for music and drama. A new 8-lane track and stadium facility was completed in August 2008 providing high quality facilities for student athletics.
